The Festival of Balloons in Feodosia

The "Magic Brotherhood" Festival of aeronautics in Feodosiya is, perhaps, one of the brightest shows arranged by the city for the whole tourist season.

Running in Feodosiya since 1997, the festival has already had time to win great popularity both among city dwellers, and among its visitors.

Feodosiya was not casually chosen as the base for the festival, as along with Koktebel, it has for 50 years been considered one of the main centres for hand gliding in the Crimea.

The Feodosijsky festival starts on the first of May and runs for the whole week. The festival program abounds with every possible competition and demonstrations. Even the championship for kite fans is part of the festival, as is the Cup of Crimea for sports aircraft.

But the most important and memorable event of the festival is the start of the balloons. The huge balloons, lit from within, float in the air along the quay of Feodosiya, and set against a background of the evening sky it looks even more spectacular. Those who are able to pay 70 dollars for a flight on a balloon can even admire the show directly as a participant from the basket of a balloon.

In general, the festival combines fascinating action for spectators and competition for professionals. Combined with the warm Crimean spring it is a leading event not only for Feodosiya, but also for the whole of the Crimea.
