"Alexander Green" The House and Museum of the writer in Feodosiya

Alexander Green was one of the most famuos cult writers during the days of the USSR. His most known novel - " Scarlet Sails " was in those days found on the shelf of practically every bookworm in the nation.

In all his works there is a certain unreality, an attempt if not to alter, then to create a world in which there is a place for pure emotions and feelings, without any of the impurities of cynicism or scepticism.

The main theme of all the books of Alexander Green was the sea. It is no wonder, that the writer decided to lodge in Feodosiya, as this Crimean city has both dramatic skylines of mountain ridges and a beautiful coastline. The writer moved to Crimea in 1924, and lived in a house along Galerejnoj street, which is now the museum.

The official opening of the museum took place in 1970. It is an attractive, small one-storeyed house. A huge, heavy anchor rests outside; the oak front door is similar to those of the ancient Dutch port taverns, and part of a ship's mast and a log lantern hang from the walls.

The exhibition is in the style of the ancient sea ship. Each room in the house has a name: the Cabin of Wanderings, Rostral, and Ship's Library. The scenery of the museum allows the visitor to plunge directly into the world of creativity of the writer.

The main exhibits of the museum are, undoubtedly, books. Here the first editions of many of the novels of Green are to be found, including "Running on Waves", "Road Anywhere" and "White Fire".

Green's Museum is considered to be one of the best sights of Feodosiya. You can visit it from 10am until 6pm (closed for lunch from 1pm to 2pm) every day, except for Monday.
